Pave the Way

Pattern:  Pave the Way by Karen L. Gray, BH & G Quilt Sampler Spring/Summer 2011
Size:  52.5" x 71.5"
Quilted by Lainey Wilkins, Powell River, BC

A couple of years ago my sister-in-law gave me a bundle of batik fat quarters that she had seen at a fabric store and thought I might like.  (Usually my family members think I have too much fabric already!). I added to them a bit and this is the result.

The quilting has been done by Lainey Wilkins of Powell River, BC.  The leaf pattern works perfectly with the batiks and the backing (see below).

Thread:  King Tut 963

The backing is a flannel by Northcott called Reptile Rumpus (but no reptiles are actually in sight!).

I think Lisa & Aron will enjoy their new quilt and I imagine sometime in the future a similar quilt will make an appearance as I have a stack of leftover blocks and I love this one :)

Happy Quilting!

Roll Play

Pattern:  Roll Play - Tiny 53 by Pieced Tree Patterns
Size:  48" x 60"
Quilted by Lainey Wilkins of Powell River, BC

Instead of using a jelly roll, I cut my own strips from six different batiks from the Garden Party batik line from Avlyn.  Once it was pieced, I sent it to Lainey Wilkins in Powell River to quilt on her longarm machine.  Some details of the beautiful quilting:

As is my usual practice, I backed this quilt with a flannel - Della Flannel Sun Stones by Free Spirit.  I used the the blue batik with the cranberry print for the binding.

Happy Quilting!

Kite Flight Quilt

Pattern:  Kite Flight Quilt by Janice Zellers Ryan of Better Off Thread
Size: 38" x 50"

This is another collaboration with Lainey Wilkins.  I pieced the top and sent back to Lainey and she quilted it on her longarm and did (or will do) the binding.

This quilt is made with Robert Kaufman Kona Skinny Strips and once I got over the centres not lining up perfectly, I really enjoyed the look of the finished quilt, especially once Lainey had quilted it!

Happy Quilting & Happy 2014!
