Flannel Pillowcases

While searching through my fabric bins I came across this cute flannel and decided to make some winter pillowcases for our couch pillows (1 regular & 2 travel size).  I still have some left which might make it into a new winter couch quilt :)

Herringbone Hot Pads

Size: 10" x 10"
Pattern:  Herringbone Hot Pads by Melanie Dramatic (melaniedramatic.com) ufor
Moda Bake Shop (Tutorial at www.modabakeshop.com)
Fabric:  Charms - Barcelona by Moda

Two layers of batting and a layer of Insul-Bright inbetween will keep the heat away and the back-to-front binding made the finishing fast and easy.  From one charm pack, I made four pads (two sets).  I also think it would make an awesome block in a quilt with some sashing - five charm packs would be twenty blocks :)

Rock Candy

Size:  20.125" x 23"
Pattern:  Rock Candy by Little Jaybird Quilts
Fabrics:  Perfect Palette by Fabric Freedom
Thread:  King Tut 913

This topper went together really smoothly - especially after I started pressing the seams open.  I will definitely be making it again!  (Sorry the color is off in these bottom two pictures - it was a darkish day when I was taking them & I've already sent the sample to Galena Bay Novelty Fabrics).

Cross-Eyed

Size:  14" x 14"
Pattern:  Cross-Eyed from Micro Mini Quilts by Moose on the Porch Quilts

The fabric for the blocks was from the Kaffe Collective by Rowan (2.5" squares).

My final quilt turned out a bit bigger (14" instead of 13") than the pattern - I squared each block to 2.75" because I could.

To quilt it, I dropped the feed dogs and meandered all over.

On the back I used a fat quarter of Northcott Stonehenge and for binding a striped fabric from Michael Miller.

Chapstick Cozy

I followed the tutorial by Little Bit Funky for the Chapstick Cozy - Five Minute Edition (www.littlebitfunky.com).  It was quick & easy.  I didn't have a plain d-ring in my stash but I did have the clip ring that I was going to use to make a new lanyard for my keys - it worked perfectly! It can now hook onto my purse or tote bag.

Edit:  It also fits my Clinique lipgloss!!!

Flannel Dog Blanket

Size:  21.5" x 21.5"

I cut my flannel scraps into 4" squares and make my dogs little quilts.  They use them in front of their crates, in front of the fireplace and just in general.  Somehow, their first ones have lasted over a year but I keep thinking that with all the washings and use, etc, that it would be a good idea to have a back up or two.  So here is my first extra.

I stitched in the ditch and then about 0.5" on either side of the seam line.

Sometimes Charlie loves his quilt...

and sometimes he doesn't...

Bud loves his too and is a lot easier on his but didn't want to be in the picture :)

Java Macchiato Bento Box

Pattern:  Bento Box by Tracey Brookshier
Size:  48.5" x 60.5"
Fabrics:  Java Macchiato by Stephanie Prescott for Galaxy, a division of EE Schenck Co (one strip set for this size)
Binding:  Tonga by Timeless Treasures
Backing:  Woolies by Bonnie Sullivan & Maywood Studio - this is one of the softest flannels
Thread:  King Tut 983

I stitched in the ditch - it was enough to make all the gorgeous prints stand out.

I have a small little pile of scraps left - maybe a mug rug or two???

Parksville Quilthouse Quilters

Prior to moving to Nanaimo I was a member of the Parksville Quilthouse Quilters guild.  This was a project which I had planned on finishing and sending back shortly after the move but life happens.  Now, two and a half years later...

(Sorry the colour seems a bit off in the picture of the whole quilt)

Size:  36" x 36"

The quilt is all half square triangles which I offset to one side and then added a narrow border.  Because this is a "Comfort Quilt" (for donation), I quilted it quite a bit as I imagine it will be washed frequently or possibly in industrial machines.

For the backing I used a green flannel with a floral print which coordinated beautifully.

Another Fabric Box

This little fabric box is the same as my previous ones but with fabric that matches the wall hanging in my powder room on the main floor.  I'm going to use it to hold my lip gloss and other miscellaneous items which end up there. I love the turtles & dragonflies!!!

Quilt:  Taffy Pull from  Micro Mini Quilts by Moose on the Porch Quilts
Size 14" x 14"

This was a fun little quilt to make as Konda Luckau has some different ways to use your 2.5" squares, Taffy Pull, being just one of them.

Monster Munchies

Monster Munchies pattern by Jean Anne Sharrai & Gayle Noyes (mccallsquilting.com)
Size:  14.5" x 48.25"

This is a UFO that I've finished just in time  for Halloween.  I can't decide which fabric is my favourite - the spiders, the eyes, or the skulls.

Here's a little mug rug I made last year using some appliqués from Patrick Lose's designs in the Quilting Celebrations magazine.

Sew Uptown

Sew Uptown by This & That
Size:  4" x 6"

Inside there's a zippered pocket and a pleated pocket which closes with a snap (or you could use Velcro).  Next time I would use an extra layer of interfacing on the flap just to give it a little more body.

View of the back:

Here's a close up of the main fabric.  It's Paisley Peacock by Hoffman California & I'm already working on the scraps!

Pooh's Umbrella Friends

Size:  46" x 52.5"

This quilt started as a panel.  I added the borders and cornerstones and quilted random sets of curved lines kind of repeating the pattern in the background.

On the back I used a cream flannelette with black polka dots.

With some of the extra fabric, I made this little tote:

Also, using 5" squares, I made some soft blocks:

Celtic Crystals

Pattern:  Celtic Crystals by Jerry Stube & Maria Pate
Size:  84" x 84"
This is another quilt which Lainey Wilkins & I have completed together.  I pieced all the blocks and assembled it to the edge of the dark purple.  Lainey added the final border, quilted it on her longarm and did the binding.  Lainey's offering it as a block of the month at Galena Bay Novelty Fabrics (www.fabricandwoodideas.com). I think the biggest challenge was trying to get the quilt to hold still in the wind to get a good picture :)

Slices of Sunshine

Pattern:  Slices of Sunshine by Jessica Levitt from the book Set the Table
Size:  16.5" x 62.5"

This is my version of Slices of Sunshine and I love the way it turned out.  It was especially bright and cheerful after all the fog we've had recently.  I pieced it a little differently than the instructions called for because I already had a stack of 2.5" yellow strips which I wanted to use.  I used white thread and quilted in the ditch horizontally and then 1/2" on either side of each seam line as well.  It was a lot of stitching but well worth it.
On the back I used a yellow and white gingham print.

Fun Flowers Star

Size:  20.5" x 20.5"

I designed this wall hanging as my contribution as an associate member of the Timberlane Quilters' Guild.  They are collecting and donating cheerful wall hangings to a local transition house.

The fabrics were mainly from a panel by Lake House Dry Goods which contained the different sized florals and stripes and were intended for a tote bag of some sort.  I cut them all apart and made this.

Colourwash Placemats

Size:  14" x 20.5"
Pattern:  Colourwash Placemats by A Cotton Treasure Design

I finished each placemat by stitching in the ditch using King Tut 903 & Metler 0749 (light blue - almost white) threads.

Musical Dreams

Size:  50" x 72"
Pattern:  Catchanap, Tiny 59, by Pieced Tree Patterns

I added an extra section to the original pattern to add to the length so this quilt features fours different musical prints.  It is backed with a dark brown flannel.
