Little Zig For Fall

Little Zig For Fall

Pattern:  based on Little Zig by Monica Solorio-Snow

Size:  9.125" x 11.25"

This is one of my projects for Serge & Sew's September Colour of the Month - Orange.  The provided fabric was used for the middle zigzag and the binding.  The background was a fat quarter (& I also had enough to piece it for the backing too).  The greens were from my scrap bin.

White Stars for Fall

White Stars for Fall

Pattern:  White Stars by Julie Herman (Jaybird Quilts)
Book:  Fun-Size Quilts
Size:  12.75" x 16.5"

I started this quilt with white Kona cotton and the Timeless Treasures Fabrics, Inc Patt# HARVEST-CM6445.  I used it in three stars (top centre, third row left & bottom right) and for the binding.  All the other fabrics were from my scrap bins.

Each block finishes at 4" x 4".

I used a white on white print from my stash for the backing.

Straight line quilting in white thread horizontally, vertically, and diagonally made an asterisk in each white star.

One more view.

Felt Piggy Bank

Felt Piggy Bank

Pattern by:  Dream A Little Dream

Hand-dyed wool:  "Curlers" by In the Patch Designs

When I printed the pattern it printed as a full page so I re-copied it reducing it to 70% so it was just under 4" tall to fit the height of my fabric.  I then made a buttonhole approximately 1.5" long (it has to fit a toonie!).  To save time, I traced the outline of the piggy onto freezer paper, cut it out, layered my fabrics wrong sides together, lined up my freezer paper piggy with my buttonhole & ironed it on, stitched around it twice, removed the freezer paper, and then cut out the piggy.

Next time I would interface my buttonhole but other than that, I think this piggy is adorable!

Mod Stack Placemats

Mod Stack Placemats

Pattern by Faith Jones of Fredh Lemons Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics
Size:  12" x 18" (trimmed from 12.5" x 18.5" after quilting to fit the Meals on Wheels requirements locally)

This is a project for the Nanaimo Quilters' Guild.  They collect placemats & donate them to Meals on Wheels.  The Guild provided the batting - an Ultra Thin Poly.  It was lovely to use.

I used five assorted fat quarters for the centres and a brown Moda Grunge Basicgrey by Moda, Pattern #30150 for the background & binding.  The five fat quarters was enough for six placemats with some smaller scraps for another project.

It's a little hard to see in the photos but I quilted the placemats with horizontal lines approximately 0.5" apart.

One of the requests from the placemat committee is that we use an interesting fabric on the back so I chose this print from Shamah & Sons, Patt#5015M.

I have three finished & three waiting for more batting when Guild starts back up in September.

Night Fairies

Night Fairies

Pattern:  Spotlight by Mountainpeek Creations
Size:  52" x 70.75"

I think this is my favorite panel in this series yet - Night Fairies by The Estate of Cicely Mary Barker, Michael Miller Fabrics.  I used the coordinating print for the outside border.

For the backing I used 513 Shadowplay by Maywood Studio EESCO.

A variety of fabrics from my stash made up the pieced border.

I quilted the panel and the outside border with a meandering stitch.

This is another May 2014 finish just being posted in August...

Ten Little Things

Ten Little Things

Pattern:  Fivezies by Bella Moon
Size:  48" x 67"

Charm Pack:  Ten Little Things by Jenn Ski for Moda
Background & Binding:  Dimples by Andovet Fabrics

Backing:  Flannel from my stash (from WalMart years ago)

I quilted straight lines horizontally & vertically on the edges on the sashing strips.

This is a May 2014 finish that I didn't post right away as I wanted it to be delivered to it's new owner first - which it was in June - then I just got busy!  So here I go with some catching up posts :)
