Placemats: 14" x 18.5"
Table Centre: 9.5" x 9.5"
This project started as a Maple Batik Scrap Bag (small size). I cut all the fabric into 1.25" x 5" strips and sewed them into blocks of six strips.
For the placemats, I used twelve blocks and rotated the blocks horizontally & vertically. Out of the scrap bag I had enough fabric to make four placemats and a small table centre. I had four strips left and a small pile of scraps.
Backing: a batik from my stash (was from Wal-Mart at Lougheed Mall from 2006)
Batting: Fusible Fleece
Thread: Sulky 733-4006
For the quilting I stitched in the ditch and stitched down the center of each block in each direction.
I did back-to-front binding cutting my backing 1/2" bigger on each side and folding it to the front and top-stitching it.
The table centre is made up of four blocks as that's what I had enough fabric to make. (I could have made four coasters instead - one block = one coaster)
I had to piece the backing in two places but it still worked. I pressed the seams open so there wouldn't be too much bulk in the back-to-front binding.

Happy Quilting!
